SPB TV and SMG have signed a partnership agreement
An official ceremony dedicated to the signing of a partnership agreement between SPB TV and Shanghai Media Group, one of Chinese largest media holdings, took place on June 15 in Shanghai. The event was held as a part of Russian Deputy Minister of Telecom and Mass Communications Alexey Volin's visit.
The agreement, significant from the point of view of the Russian-Chinese partnership in the sphere of media and communications, transfers rights for SMG content broadcasting to SPB TV. The broadcasting of Chinese TV channels will take place via the SPB TV application on the territory of Russian Federation and the CIS.
"New technologies will allow our SMG partners to enlarge their audience due to the multimillion foreign Chinese expat community," said SPB TV general director Kirill Filippov during the event.
"We will greatly simplify access to our content with help of SPB TV," said Shanghai Media Group's general director, Wang Jianpin.
SMG is one of China's largest media and cultural conglomerates. It boasts the most complete portfolio of media and related businesses in China with the highest market value. Its business scope spans traditional radio and TV network operations, newspapers and magazines, drama and film production and distribution, OTT and streaming, IPTV, online and console gaming, digital advertising, home shopping and e-commerce, live entertainment, tourism and more. By the end of 2014, SMG had about RMB 50 billion in assets.
SMG possesses 13 radio frequencies, 15 cable and satellite TV networks, 15 subscription-based digital pay TV channels, eight newspapers and magazines and a number of performance troupes and landmark properties including the Oriental Pearl TV Tower. Its flagship satellite channel Dragon TV is one of the most influential satellite TV channels in China, reaching 1 billion viewers in China and across the world including Hong Kong, Macao, the US and Canada. Its home shopping business is also the largest in the country.
